Surface features are not differentiators

A clean listing grid, a responsive search, a well drawn logo. These are the features a visitor notices in the first minute and they are also the features a phishing clone reproduces perfectly, which should tell you how much information they carry. Anything a copy can duplicate in an afternoon cannot be what distinguishes the original.

The attributes that matter are structural, boring and slower to check. That is exactly why comparison articles skip them.

What genuinely differs

• Escrow scheme, and specifically whether any single party can move held funds alone
• Number of simultaneously live addresses, which decides behaviour under a flood
• Age, as a proxy for how much vendor history a buyer can read before ordering
• Coins accepted, which decides what record a purchase leaves behind
• Whether entry for sellers is screened, which shapes who you end up buying from

A procedure you can repeat

Fix the criteria before looking at any market, so the criteria cannot be quietly bent to fit a preferred answer. Score each market on the same list. Record what you could not verify rather than guessing at it. Then note the date, because a comparison without one is being presented as permanent when it is a snapshot.

Applied to Nexus against the general field, the pattern is consistent: strong on escrow structure, address redundancy and accumulated history, ordinary on interface, and unmeasurable on internal dispute handling in the same way every market is unmeasurable there.

Where comparisons go wrong

Three failure modes recur. Ranking on volume, which is unverifiable and trivially inflated. Ranking on recency, where the newest market looks most exciting and has the least history to judge it by. And ranking on the author own convenience, where the market they already had an account on wins by coincidence.

A comparison that survives scrutiny states its method, admits its gaps and puts a date on itself. One that arrives at a numbered list of the ten best markets with no criteria attached is entertainment.
